Lansky belonged to an ancient family of nobles of the Grodno province. Participated in M.N. Kutuzov's mission to conclude peace with Turkey after the war of 1787-1792.



In 1810, he was awarded the rank of Major General. Since 1811, the 36-year-old general was the chief of the Belarusian Hussar Regiment. He was considered one of the best generals of the Russian army. Participated in the Battle of Leipzig, which ended with the defeat of the French. Under France, Lansky had to take part in many bloody battles. He was wounded in the Battle of Craon, which took place on February 23 (March 7), 1814, and died three weeks later. Portrait of S.N. Lansky is in the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. His grave is the oldest one preserved in the old Orthodox cemetery in Grodno.
